I never never ever bookmark gofundme pages… well, except this time. It turns out that the website Backcountry.com is a bunch of aholes. Lots of preppers, Search and rescue people, emergency preparedness types, etc have made purchases with these dicks without to much complaints… until now. Apparently they think they OWN the word "backcountry" and if you use it, they will sue you. … So let's #boycott them and fight back. It's that simple.

Now the e-commerce behemoth is suing small business owners who have trademarked the word ‘backcountry.’” (Read the full article here: https://coloradosun.com/2019/10/31/backcountry-com-sues-anyone-who-uses-its-namesake-is-it-bullying-or-just-business/)According to the US Patent and Trademark Office, there are dozens of businesses, non-profits and organizations that have been targeted by lawsuits by plaintiff Backcountry.com LLC over their use of the term, “backcountry.” (See full list here: http://ttabvue.uspto.gov/ttabvue/v?qt=adv&procstatus=All&pno=&propno=&qs=Backcountry.com+llc&propnameop=&propname=&pop=&pn=&pop2=&pn2=&cop=&cn=)“Backcountry” is a common word used to describe a remote undeveloped rural area. For many of us in the outdoor community, the meaning runs much deeper – the backcountry is engrained in our lifestyle. “Backcountry” was common vernacular long before Backcountry.com appropriated it and began suing those who use the term to describe their products, organizations and movements. This is abusive and goes against all the ethics and standards of the outdoor community. One business, Marquette Backcountry Skis, is currently fighting the lawsuit filed by Backcountry.com LLC. This may set precedent so this lawsuit is pivotal. This is literally David vs. Goliath. It’s time for the outdoor community to stand as one and put a stop to those attempting to corrupt the ethics of our community. Funds raised will be distributed in the following order:1. Legal defense of Marquette Backcountry Skis. A Marquette Backcountry Ski win will benefit others being sued.2. Support small businesses being sued by Backcountry.com.3. Any funds remaining will be donated to https://www.bigcitymountaineers.org/ to support and encourage accessibility and appreciation of the backcountry.Thank you for your support as the backcountry community organizes to support its own.Read moreDonations (0)Patrick McNamara $20 21 minsRio McMahon $10 29 minsChris Kostman / Badwater $500 59 minsWallace Mann $50 1 hrJason Moore $20 2 hrsSee allSee allFundraising team: Boycott Backcountry.com (3)Aaron Mattson OrganizerRaised $350 from 7 donationsLongmont, COContactDavid Ollila Team memberRaised $2,053 from 23 donationsKalon Wright Team memberThis team raised $3,004 from 89 other donations.Report fundraiser#1 fundraising platformPeople have raised more money on GoFundMe than anywhere else.
